During our weekly LEGO Robotics classes, children learn coding & mechanical engineering, while developing their computational thinking, using scientific models and designiing prototypes. To motivate children to stay involved and keep learning, we use a wide range of techniques such as LEGO building, Robotics competitions, Stop Motion Animation, Photography and Film making. Children start by using simple visual programming blocks provided by LEGO, and within few terms progress to learning and using new programming languages that enable them to develop games for their Robots.
Our classes focus on supporting them to think, understand and analyse each step of their Robots Building and Coding. Our experienced and friendly tutors explain the mechanical engineering concepts behind each mode, challenge children to think and question each step, and support them to design, test and re-design new Robots, growing their resilience and love for tehnology.
Children work in pairs, learning to share ideas and cooperate, just as engineers and scientists.
Each class is defined by three phases: Explore, Create and Share. Children engage with a scientific question or an engineering problem, establish a direction of work, and consider possible solutions. They build models using LEGO bricks, connect them to iPads through smart-hubs and give them life by coding them. Each week they increase confidence for building complicated models and coding them, creating linear and parallel sequences, learning and applying programming principles, modifying and designing new prototypes.
Every year children test their knowledge and creativity by taking part in First LEGO League, an international competition for primary and secondary school kids.
Engineering Minds' classes last between 1h and 1h30min, depending on the venue where they take place.
All equipment is provided by us.
Each club offers up to 2 bursaries for children from low income families. If you need our support to enrol to these clubs, please contact us at info@engineeringminds.org.uk to be placed on the waiting list for the next term
