WORK EXPERIENCE AND VOLUNTEERING ROLES WITH ENGINEERING MINDS
Every career starts somewhere.
The first steps into the world of work can be some of the most valuable. Work experience and volunteering give young people the opportunity to discover their strengths, build confidence and develop the communication, teamwork and responsibility that employers value.
And these experiences matter. Recent research from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) found that only 28% of employers recruiting 16–24-year-olds felt that young people were well prepared for the world of work, with communication and workplace social skills among the areas employers identified for development.
But gaining experience early is about much more than preparing a CV. It gives young people the chance to try new things, take on real responsibility and discover what they enjoy and where their strengths lie. Those experiences can be invaluable when making decisions about university, apprenticeships and future careers.
Volunteering also brings benefits of its own. UK research shows that volunteers commonly report a sense of achievement, greater connection with others and the satisfaction of making a difference. Helping someone else learn or succeed can be a powerful way to develop your own confidence and sense of purpose.
At Engineering Minds, young people can use their own skills and enthusiasm to inspire younger children while learning from our team and gaining meaningful experience in a real working environment. Whether their next step is university, an apprenticeship or their first job, we want their time with us to give them experiences and skills they can take with them.
